Explain the characteristics and applications of NC turret lathes, NC horizontal lathes, and NC vertical lathes.
■NC Turret Lathe
This refers to an NC lathe equipped with a rotating tool post called a turret. Various types of tools can be attached to the turret, allowing for tool changes as needed, enabling a variety of cutting processes, making it suitable for mass production of the same parts.
■NC Face Lathe
This is a lathe specialized for face turning, used when machining large disc-shaped workpieces with a large outer diameter compared to their length. The NC face lathe is characterized by having a large faceplate, allowing for the cutting of large workpieces.
■NC Vertical Lathe
While the carriage moves horizontally, the NC vertical lathe has a spindle oriented vertically, allowing the cutting tool to move from top to bottom for turning. Because the spindle is vertical, it can minimize spindle distortion, which is an advantage of the NC vertical lathe, enabling high-precision machining.
